Unable to access MSE from home - blocked!

Options
Hi there, since Saturday Ive been unable to access MSE from my home internet connection.

Anytime I do, I get the message (originating from MSE) 'Your Request has been blocked' - applies to both the forum & main site

https://plus.google.com/photos?pid=5989920179042990146&oid=102488302227134369340

Same for my laptop / phone / tablet - but switch from WiFi to Mobile Data, and it's fine.

I've tried sending a mail to the suggested address, but had no reply.

I have a static IP address, so wonder if my IP has been blocked for some reason?

Doubt it, as if that is the case you just get a terse:

    This sounds like:

    gXjjQmY.png

Which is usually a block for some security reason? i.e. the site doesn't like something about the requests from that connection and sees it as a potential security threat.

Wrongly in this case I presume....

I've had the same IP for years, so don't think it's something I've inherited - it only started few days ago. No other website does it, but it's across all my devices so must (I would imagine) be down to something about my IP.

I move house in a few weeks, and I will no longer have the static IP (sad face) but should I hope mean that worst case , I have to live with it for just a few weeks.

(PS, ferni, yes the second image is the message I get)

    Odd things cause that message.

For example, some proxy configurations on a connection. Trying to post the word system32 used to do it.

Something about your connection is getting flagged up by the server and blocked.

The team do read the reports. Hopefully it will be sorted soon.

I am getting this on my tablet.

It works fine for about 30 minutes then I get this message for about 5 minutes, then back to working again.

    It's very annoying.
  • Hi everyone,

If you receive a blocked error page, please copy the contents of the page, most importantly the eventID and email webmaster@moneysavingexpert.com.

    We will then investigate.

    Thanks,
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,

I recall doing this at the time (as the error page included the same email address if I recall correctly) but didn't get a response.

In this end, I was able to resolve it by clearing out any cookies relating to MSE - so there must have been an iffy one in there. Hope that helps anyone else with the same issue.
