NCB (proof)

Have just renewed with Aviva. I have 17 yrs NCB. They just took my word for this/no check. If I have a claim, presumably they would ? ask for proof. I have been with a variety of Coys over the years and it is yonks since (can't remember) anyone asked for proof. At each past renewal, the paperwork stated the No of yrs NCB, but as they hadn't checked, WOULD this be proof, or would they requre 17 yrs records/paperwork?
Thanks

This would be proof of NCD if your next insurer asked for it. You dont need to have the full paper trail, just the last one0

so if it isn't checked (used to be I am sure), someone can lie once, get away with it, and use that as proof next year.......
surely not. seems very lax of them0 -

In theory if you knew who does what you could use that to fabricate NCD, leave claims behind you etc. Insurance is based on the principle of utmost good faith and so there is a significant amount of "trust" involved0 -
Zurich asked me for proof last year.
A while back I'd been abroad for a year and just figured my NCB would go up by a year when I got back. Seems silly now that I thought that, but guy on the phone gave it me when I argued. I think he just couldn't bothered to explain it to me!0 -

I know of two people who went to Aviva with written proof of 8 years and 14 years respectively, when they received their renewal letters at the end of the year they both only showed 6 years !!
On contacting Aviva they were told their system is only based on 5 years so they gave 5 years plus 1 for the year they had been with then.
If they don't ask for proof when you purchase they will almost certainly ask for it in the event of a claim.
You can only use what you have written proof of or you could have serious issues later.0 -
Individual companies will apply the max ncd that you are entitled to - some might be 5 yrs, some 9 yrs, some more.
If you are someone who switches insurers regularly (or occasionally!) then it would probably be a good idea to keep the renewal notice from the previous insurers to make sure you have proof of your claim free years.
As stated before, insurers do hve access to CUE to check previous claims, Not all insurers subscribe to this so may require further proof for ncd.0
