Anyone used Windows Easy Transfer?

Hi, I am in the process of replacing XP with Windows 7. I downloaded the Windows Easy Transfer and it created a Mig file on my desktop which is 50GB but it looks like it does when you're computer isn't able to open the file. I sent it to my external hard drive, it took ages but when I searched my external hair drive I can't find it anywhere. I am worried about installing Windows 7 and I haven't backed up my old files. I spent about 4 hours yesterday doing it all and it looks like I haven't achieved anything.

Yes - used it this week and it worked fine. If your huge file hasn't been saved on your external hdd, it could be because it is formatted to FAT32 (which has a max. permitted file size of 4GB I believe). Right-click on the drive icon and select Properties to check. You would need to reformat it to NTFS in order to save your file. This of course would wipe the drive, so save the contents somewhere safe until it is done, then copy them back.
Hope this helps!0
