As above. OP joined in 2008, not a single post, then four in one day, all spamming the same website....
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

What this initiative proposes is a radical rethink of how energy suppliers need to to do business with their customers.

If by radical you mean tried and tested with negligible results, then I quite agree!
  • I think the Huge Switch is a bit different to this new Big Deal switch I think. I tried the Huge Switch and I just seemed to get offered a (by now, standard) list of tariffs to compare.

    Maybe I missed something.

The Big Deal looks more similar to the Big London Energy Switch that ran recently, and the Which? campaign. As others have said already, things *have* moved on since Which? tried it. I'm pretty sure there are more providers for a start than there were a couple of years ago which *should* mean more competition / potential interested parties tat they could negotiate with.

You'd think that a relatively new entrant to the market would welcome the opportunity to grow quickly. Maybe no surprise that it seems to be OVO that "won" the Big London Switch auction from what I can tell (I didn't sign up but have seen a few comments about it around).
  • That table is horrible. 25 years of the web and that's the best they could do !

The Which campaign that turned up no tariffs that weren't already on the market, and most suppliers actively shunned?

So from EOn's figures they're making £37 profit per customer who spends ~£1000 per year. Thats hardly raking it in. Pretty sure if I spend £1000 in a supermarket they're going to make more than £37 profit from me.

    What is collective switching?
It's a bit of a mouthful, but the concept is simple.
If consumers form a big group, they can get a better deal.
The more people join, the more bargaining power they have.
You don't even have to do any work, because we do the bargaining for you!
Collective switching has already delivered savings to over a million consumers across Germany, Holland and Australia. Local authorities have even launched successful switches in the UK.
The Big Deal aims to take it to another level.
