EDF Energy - Revert from Prepayment
Hi
Last August we were switched to a prepayment meter due to me being out of work and getting really behind paying bills we ended up with just over £1,000 debt for our electric.
I am now in full time permanent employment and called EDF to see if it was possible to switch back to direct debit and make arrangements to pay debt off with them.
We pay £40 a week useage and £5 a week towards the debt on the meter. I was told that if we switched we would pay £95 a month useage due to a change in tarriff!
They will not allow us to be reverted back to direct debit unless I pay the outstanding balance off in full....
So I have complained as I do not understand they are supposed to help their customers in financial hardship.... we are currently paying almost £200 a month on prepay with £20 towards debt and could pay £95 on usage on direct debit and £105 towards our debt each month.
They still say they cannot help at all unless I pay the remaining debt.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do other than pay a fortune each month and get no where paying the debt off?
Thanks

Huh?
You're spending £200 a month with £180 on usage and £20 on debt.
And you want to set up a DD on the basis of a usage of £95 a month?
Am I missing something?0 -
Correct. EDF quoted me that if I changed to a standard meter on a new tarriff then our useage would be £95
Id happily pay the remainder £105 towards our debt owing to them0 -
The numbers don't add up. If you're using £180 worth of energy now, there is no way you'll only use £95 from changing the meter.0

I am only going on what I was quoted if they change me to a new tarrif. Because I'm on prepayment there is only one tarrif apparently.
I completely confused by the lot tbh0
