Who are my gas and electricity companies?

Hello :)

So I've finally got keys to my new home which was a repossession and therefore all utilities were turned off. I have since turned the gas and the electricity back on and have sorted the water company- but how do I know who my gas and electricity suppliers are? I've had the keys for about three weeks and nothing has come through my door with regards to these supplier yet.. Just wondering if there is a way of finding out who is supplying my current gas / electricity so that I can call them and sort out my account / meter readings etc.

Thanks, Sophie

Nothing has come through your door because the suppliers are not psychic-they have no idea that the property is occupied until the meters are read, which could be 2 years hence. It's your job to contact them on occupation. I hope you took opening readings?

    Hi there

I am experiencing a similar issue and wonder if anyone can help. I moved into a rental property in December and was informed that E ON supplied both gas and electricity. However, after being in touch with them they have said that they do not supply our energy. I have rung both the gas and electricity enquiry lines as suggested in the link given above, but it turns out our property is not listed on either database! I am at a loss what to do next. How can I find out who supplies our energy? I am getting very worried about either being cut off for non payment, or receiving a scarily large bill in the future. It's not possible to switch without knowing who your current supplier is so I am stuck.
