TomTom will not update.

Not sure whether to put this in motoring but ill try here.

I have a TomTom One 30 series 125/130

I have downloaded the Home software from the website, its the correct software as I have already been in touch with TomTom regarding this issue but up to now their advice has still not corrected the problem.

When I start the Home software and put in my TomTom USB all I get on the homepage is 'no device connected'

I have scoured Google and done everything others have said, who are having this issue also. I have contacted TomTom and they have given me instructions to follow but still cant get my tomtom to connect.

When I put in the USB something is happening as it recharges the battery so the USB cable must be working.

I am using Windows 8.1

Has anyone had this issue and sorted out the problem???

Im still waiting on the next reply from TomTom as ive told them its still not connecting to the Home software.

I see you have tried on the official TT forums but not much success. Maybe try here, many of the geeks do not frequent the official site ;) You will probably have USB3 ports if it is a newish laptop. Does it show up as a drive in "my computer" (or whatever W8 calls it) ?

I would try another cable to start with - any USB cable that fits. Whilst it's charging, it doesn't mean the wire that carries the data is ok.

You could try a factory reset - on my TomTom there's a small reset hole in the bottom you stick the end of a paperclip in.
  • I would suggest try it on a windows 7 (or XP even!) machine if you can.

And yes it may be the USB cable as suggested. Charging doesn't mean it is fully functional I have found.
    Friendly greeting!

Silkyuk. One possible cause. Are you sure your firewall isn't blocking your device. Just a thought.

Ive tried the reset, there is no little redet hole you just hold in the on/off switch until you hear a drum noise.

TomTom have reemailed me suggesting a new cable which I have bought on Ebay, yet to try until delivery. Also firewall was another thing I have to try and stop.

I do not have a firewall on I do not think, unless there is one in the windows 8.1 software. I use Avast free antivirus and i do not think there is a firewall on that.

Are you watching the Tom Tom screen, and when it says do you want to connect to your computer selecting "Yes"?

To be honest I have this issue from time to time, try doing it from a fresh reboot of your laptop, connect it, do not open Home, and then switch on the Tom Tom. It should automatically open Home and be connected, but do the first bit above as well.

It may be a problem with the Home software and 8.1?
I use my Tom Tom with a Windows 7 computer.

Have to say the Tom Tom software is rubbish though.
When you've downloaded a map, if there's any problem with the installation it insists on starting the download from scratch again.
    Very frustratating.
