12 months 0% on purchases on existing Barclaycard

Having shifted my debt from a Barclaycard to a newly acquired MBNA card, I phoned to cancel the Barclaycard as it was surplus to requirements (and figuring I might someday want to apply for a new one for a new long term 0% balance transfer). After a brief chat Mr Barclaycard at the call centre asked if I might want to keep the Barclaycard if he arranged for me to have 12 months at 0% on new purchases. I said yes please and I've used it for most of what I've bought lately.
This kind of thing may be old news for a lot of you, I suspect, but I thought it worth mentioning in case there are people out there with dormant paid off cards they don't really need that they might be able to transform into useful 0%ers by asking to cancel them. Obviously I've no way of knowing if this kind of offer is rare or common but if it's a card you've no need of anyway then there's no harm in taking a punt.

thank you for sharing.
yes, these deals do come along from Barclaycard. the big benefit of a purchase, as opposed to a BT, is no fee involved.
it May be possible to get your hands on a second Barclaycard for a BT deal too, perhaps when your MBNA deal comes to an end.0 -
Just tried this and got the 0% for 12 months offer,. Much easier than waiting for a new card application, even though it's only 12 months interest free. And I keep my massive credit limit....0
