Bread - mayo - thinly sliced avocado - lemon juice - warm crispy bacon - white pepper - bread :j
Even with the lemon juice not sure how long the avacado would last before going brown though............0 -
I'm also in the bacon and avo camp. I can also recommend prawn and avocado, in brown bread with mayo, squeeze of lemon and black pepper! Yum!

I'd second the recommendation for chicken and mayo (and black pepper). You could also do it with tomato and mozzarella - never tried this in a sarnie but it's yummy as a salad

Only just seen this thread so apologies for the late reply.
I work at M&S and two really popular sandwiches are the Avocado salad ones which has the usual salad stuff in it like lettuce and tomato but I noticed it also has pinenuts in it. Another one is the Chicken, Bacon and Avocado sandwich which is very popular too. I think both are made with a guacamole mayonnaise as well.
There is also a prawn and avocado sandwich but the prawn and avocado salads are much better sellers.
Even though I work there I love looking at stuff that I think one day I will make at home when/if I have a family to support. That one day hasn't come yet though!0 -
Due to leftover roast chicken (from the Tesco bargain I nabbed on Friday! :T) and a ripe avocado (from the 20p avocadoes I got from Lidl this week :T), I have it in mind to attempt to make chicken & avocado sandwiches (à la Pret à Manger!!
) for work tomorrow…
However, I also have suspicions that avocado will discolour once cut and exposed to the air (not 100% sure as we normally eat them immediately so never give them the chance, but I seem to remember reading that if you are only using half an avocado, you should leave the stone in the other half to stop this…!!
). Can anybody tell me whether there is something I need to “do” to my avocado before putting it in my sandwich? My immediate thought is to use lemon juice, but am not sure how that will affect the flavour... If its just a case of dis-colouration, I am not bothered, but I don’t want it to go manky (taste bitter or ruin the chicken or something like that). If that’s the case, I’d rather just go with chicken on its own and use the avocado elsewhere.
I know Pret do Chicken/Avocado and Crayfish/Avocado sandwiches (which is what gave me the idea), but I don’t know if they “treat” the avocado before packing the sandwiches…
Many thanks in advance!

P.S. Board Guides: I am sorry if this is in the wrong place. I wasn’t sure where to post this kind of query, but thought as the chicken is leftovers and the avocado was a bargain (and the OS peeps are so good on using up food in innovative ways!) I would start here – I thought my question might be taken more seriously here than in The Arms!! But please feel free to move me if you think you should… :rolleyes:0 -
Hi Piglet,
You're in the right place.
You can stop the avocado from discolouring by squirting it with lemon juice. I've done this with packed lunches and it works well.
There's an earlier thread about avocado sandwiches that might interest you:
Avocado-in a sandwich?
I'll add your post to that one later.

Hi PIGLET,
The advacado will go black and manky if you put it in a sandwich tonight, lemon juice may help, but not enough, I think your bread will end up soggy.
Best thing to do is make up a chicken sandwich, and take half an advacado with you in an air tight box, eat the advacado out of its skin with a t-spoon whilst eating your sandwich.
