Penalty charge notices

I have reiceved 2 seperate penalty notices from Brent council.

Please don't make fun as it was my partner who was driving.
Below are the two penalties notices I got

1) First is penalty notice for parking. She left her car on the road and she thought it was free and so left the car for 2 hours with an unpaid ticket.£130 (£65 in 14 days)

2) second is a penalty notice for stopping in a box junction when prohibited.£195 (£130 within 28 days and £65 within 14 days)

Looks like they have many images for both of these.

It's too much money to pay. Would I stand a chance in these. I do not want to risk and instead end up paying the full.

Please advise.

Head over to the pepipoo forum. They are knowledgable about these sorts of tickets. They may ask you to upload copies of the tickets so they can check them for any mistakes which may invalidate them. Obviously these discount periods expire so you need to act quickly.

If it turns out that you are liable and you really can't afford to pay then contact the council. They may be able to help.

As above, pepipoo is your best bet.

Just to clarify, these are council issued fines, as such they are legitimate - unlike the raft of fakes issued by private companies.

So yes, you can lodge an appeal, but you need to be careful and go through all the proper channels. And as da_rule says, if it turns out you do end up having to pay, contact the council if you genuinely have difficulty paying. It's more than likely they will make some arrangement to pay in installments or whatever, which is far better than burying your head in the sand, ignoring it and ending up being chased for non-payment.

I can understand these are unwelcome and it is certainly worth checking they are valid by using the advice above but £65 is about the price of a tank of petrol. It's hardly a fortune!

What grounds do you hope to appeal on? "It's too much money" is not allowable grounds. You need to have some reason why the penalty charge is not applicable or not valid.
I do not want to risk and instead end up paying the full.

If you appeal within the time period, and it's rejected, the time period usually still counts. It'll say on the ticket.

It's 2 tickets, and totalling £130. It might be nothing for you but a lot for me as a penalty.

    Thanks

From what has been posted I can't see any grounds to appeal on.

Of course you need to check for technicalities - that's why you were directed to pepipoo.

It's a lot of money for most folks but that's the point - it's meant to be a deterrent and to make folks pay attention to the rules.

If you seriously can't pay , - as opposed to don't want to pay, then inform the council and make an arrangement to pay.

Seems like your partner has been caught bang to rights. People stopping in a box junction really pi$$es me off; it takes away the whole point of having them.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Most Council PCNs are won by people who take the matter to adjudication. And on pepipoo the odds are even better - almost all posters win at appeal, in the end. Well over 90% of posters win, from my own reading of threads there most days.

No idea how anyone can declare a poster is 'bang to rights' when they haven't seen the PCN nor the video or photo evidence (that sort of judgemental attitude really pi$$es me off!). For example I think Brent's postal Penalty Notices (re the Yellow box one) have a flaw about the statutory wording re viewing the video...

...pepipoo will take a look but you MUST start two separate new threads there and show photos of all sides of the PCN appropriate to that thread:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showforum=30

Don't post there without pics and don't start one thread about 2 different things. Post back here when you win, to educate other MSEers.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
