Whats the highest known charge??

I have read a fair bit about peeps being charged etc and the amounts vary from person to person, but the maximum tends to be round the £30-40 mark.

I have many £80 charges and even 1 for £90 for a Direct debit that was refused. Is this the norm or have my bank really taken the pee??

I'm just curious as like i say i see a lot of £30-40 charges mentioned but never £80-90 ones.

I'm currently in the process of court proceedings and have got all my info ready, part of me is hoping it does actually go to court so my bank can explain these charges. Explaining £30-40 is one thing but £80-90 is sommat else.

So who has the highest single charge then???

This is a very interesting question.
The highest single charge I have had is from the alliance and Leicester for £36 for an unpaid direct debit.
In the bad old days when I had a joint account the Yorkshire bank charged £12 a DAY for being overdrawn so in a way that was worse;)
The £80 charge is outrageous, was it in the terms and conditions?

ISTR that these "bounced DD" charges are comprised of charges for more than one failed attempt.

Err i don't think the £80 charges were in any terms and conditions otherwise i'd have certainly opened an account elsewhere, wouldn't bet the house on it though. I bank with Lloyds if that helps. lol

They used to charge the standard £30 but for a while they upped this charge to £80 and were charging me this every month over like a 6 month period for going over my overdraft etc. It got to the point where their charges were making me overdrawn as i couldn't pay them, then they would charge me again for the privilage of them making me overdrawn with their horrific charges. This went on for many months and in the end i ended up with a loan to cover my overdraft and stop all the silly £80 charges kinda thing. Bet you can't guess who the loan was with. lol

I think they are going to settle with me as this morning i recieved a letter from their solicitors Sechiari, Clark and Mitchell asking for a few extra deets including account confirmation so looks good.

I was just curious more than anything as like i say i've seen lots of mention about £30-40 charges but never any about £80-90 ones.

    Thanx for reading. :D

The highest charge imposed at the moment is Halifax at £39 returned DD. Natwesters who say we charge £40 will get some news(28 is ubf claimable and £12 is Advantage Gold charge unclaimable).
Are the charges for a single item? is the charge actually a cheque paid into the account by you but bounced because the recipient did not have sufficient funds to cover it?
