ECO Grants

Hi. I applied for an ECO Grant last November with Southern Electric. Yesterday I rang Carillion Energy Services to see what was happening with my application. i was told that everything was approved, I just needed to make a small contribution for the installation of the new boiler to proceed. This contribution is £500! At no point has anyone mentioned that I may have to pay a contribution and asking for £500 is ridiculous. I thought the aim was to help people on low incomes/with disabilities save money. I am on benefits. I suffer from ME/Fibromyalgia and am still under the care of the hospital after having a cancerous tumour removed from my eye last year. I will be on benefits for the immediate future. How is someone on benefits expected to pay £500 contribution and where do they get this figure from, does anyone know? The girl on the phone wasn't much help. Thanks x

Do you really (and I mean really) need a new boiler? Not a facetious question.0
