Laptop insurance and warranty

Finally getting a new laptop on Thursday.
Couple of questions:
- Best place for insurance? The laptop has been purchased from Amazon. I will check my parents house insurance just in case.
- Warranty. I have a one year warranty. Can (and how) I extend this?
The laptop is for uni and I don't want to be in the situation where it breaks and I can't get it fixed due to lack of insurance.
