A friend has been asked to do deliveries and collections for a charity shop in his van and will be paid for doing so, rather than call the insurance company and muddy the waters so to speak how much roughly will his premium rise for haulage insurance? He currently has cover for carrying his own goods at about £300 per year but the charity need him to be insured to carry their goods.

Does his motor insurance cover him for this class of use?0

Using your vehicle under the instruction of an employer is usually class 1 insurance as basically you are hiring the services of the vehicle to a company.

No-one other than his insurers can tell him the cost. He could phone up and say he is thinking about doing this - will his insurance cost increase?0 -

He asked his insurance for a hypothetical price but they wouldn't give him one until his renewal next month, if they quoted now he was told they would assume he was already carrying goods, that's why im asking if anyone has a rough idea of what to expect.
For what its worth im with gladiator insurance and have cover for goods at £450 and he is paying £550 ish without.
Going to try some dummy quotes in the morning with him.0 -
Be careful about doing dummy quotes with real details; some people have had insurance refused because the insurer knows about the different 'inputs' which have been tried out, and thinks it's an attempt at deception.0

Yeah that's why he called his insurance and asked for a hypothetical quote and why hes asked me to help him, I always use 'false details' when getting quotes, change the address by a few numbers and use number plates off ebay.0 -
May need to clarify insured to carry their goods. As in just properly insured and not just private SDP or commuting insurance. Or insurred because they will be liable for any damage caused whilst in transit?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
