Afternoon all!! Am seeking advice on how to change my full maiden name to my new married name which will include my previous surname as my middle name. Is that clear as mud??
Also which organisations etc do i need to contact and is there an easy way to do this which will not involve lots of ringing around etc.
Thanks in advance for any replies. D x:D

Just send the relevant places a copy of your wedding certificate and tell them the new name you are going by. It's pretty easy.

Not sure why it's massively urgent?

So if you were Miss Dooey Paula Smith and have married Mr Western you now want to be Miss Dooey Paula Smith Western?

Have you recently gotten married? Did you change your name already by just switching surnames with anyone?

There is no official process you have to go through to get your name changed. You can legally call yourself whatever you want as long as it isnt for fraudulent purposes. The challenge is convincing organisations that this is your new name.

Creating a double barrelled surname is not that odd so assuming your recently married/ havent already changed your name then simply using your marriage certificate as evidence should be enough to get it changed with organisations.

If it was a long time ago or you already changed your name etc then it may be more challenging. Strangely, passports is one of the easiest ones to change and once you have that done the rest are even easier.

You usually just send a covering letter with a copy of your marriage cerificate to any orgainisations you have dealings with. You can just tag your new surname on the end if you are keeping your maiden name or hypen it. I would just type out a template letter with your address at the top and telephone number and use this for all concerned. E.g.
    Dear Sir/Madam,
Please be advised that due to my recent marriage my surname has changed to X and I would be grateful if you could alter my records to my new married surname.
Please find enclosed a copy of my marruiage certifcate.
    Yours sincerely
    X

Make a list of anyone you deal with and send off letters accordingly e.g. mortagage company, utilities, banks, insurers, dentist, doctors, employers, National Insurance Dept, pensions etc.

Bear in mind that some companies will be happy to receive a photocopy of your certificate, usually utilities etc, but banks, passport, driving licence etc will want an original copy. We purchased three copies of our certificate when we married for this purpose (they do send them back to you) but as with all of these things, three years down the line I think I could only put my hands on one copy if I had to! :rotfl:

Every company/ governmental organisation who stores your name

There is no central database you can update that then filters down to everything else. If you are an employee then typically HMRC gets updated by your employer but some still recommend updating HMRC directly.
