I've specifically registered because I am annoyed by having seen you repeatedly give incorrect information in this thread. Timing chains last the life of the engine, or should do. This is fact and quite easily verified from a myriad sources including Toyota themselves.

Define "life of engine"... Would that conform to Vauxhall's "Lifetime" (100k miles max) warranty, f'rinstance?

There's been PLENTY of examples of "sealed for life" servicing - gearbox oil being probably the most common - severely restricting life of a major component.

Gearboxes are not sealed for life. People treat them as such. But they are not.

They can last longer with the occasional oil change. Any signs of dampness on any out the output shafts should have you checking the oil level at the very least. Bit like the engine oil light. Too many people get the light come one then think i will take it to the garage to get it checked when i get time and carry on driving.
Taking years off the life of the engine if the oil is low.

Well ive never come across a fully sealed one yet.

Gearboxes are not sealed for life. Manufacturer's service schedules treat them as such. But they are not.

    I've corrected your typo.

I'm not going to get into a flame war but the fact that in this Toyota recomends 80k or 8 years which comes first tell you otherwise:rotfl:. If it was menat to last the life of the engine it wouldn't have a change recommendation. Any modern car engine that cant do 80k or 8 years s not worth touching.

But as others have including myself the op needs to get touch with Toyota they should have a pretty good case if they've got full service history.

Toyota does not recommend a timing chain change at any mileage or time interval at all.

How do I know, I own a Yaris and checked the service document that came with the car.
