Phone Battery

Morning all!
I have been having problems with my phones battery life for the last few days, and decided to order a battery off ebay, from a phone seller.
I payed £4.99 for a battery which although did not say it was genuine, did not say it was compatible either.

The photo showed a genuine battery so i decided to buy.
Having just received this through the post now, i have opened it up to be completely different, in colour, and description.

I have opened a case with the seller, as now i can see it is counterfeit posed as genuine, is that the correct way to go for the moment?

to be honest i have just done a quick search and can buy a genuine battery for the same price!

Any other Advice?
thank you!

Whats the item number...all depends on the wording...

I realise that in another box it says compatible with, but i know a few of the galaxy range share the same batteries.

The Battery that has just come, is all gold and simply just looks counterfeit, with a word box star thing on the front.
    thank you!
  • I have also just checked and the model that's on the battery is completely different to the description model too!
    I have a samsung galaxy s3 mini I819

the battery is for a 18160

This poor battery life may be a software problem.
    Try this :
Galaxy s3/ mini/ battery life fix.
This fixes the galaxy S3 s3 Mini poor battery problem such as refusal to charge or slow or random charging, the problem is caused by apps that incorrectly interfere with battery data, wiping the disk cache partition removes the battery data stored by these apps.
Location services on some social media apps is thought to be the issue and turning of location services after the wipe should fix the problem if done before you use the app again and allow the phone to charge correctly and hold its charge.
You will not lose any data following the guide, be careful not to select factory reset as this will wipe all data and apps.
This involves putting the phone in to repair service mode to access the root system, this is the only way to erase the app data that is interfering with the battery management , you will see some apps require you to allow phone battery access, these can cause issues, clearing the root cache of data should rectify the situation.
    Here is the process:

    1. Turn off phone with the power button
    2. Wait 5 seconds.
    3. Hold up volume button, large home button, and power button together until phone switches on
    4. Let go of power button only
    5. When the green bot service Screen comes up let go of all buttons
    6. Use volume button to scroll down to selection "wipe cache partition”, press the power button to select this option.
    7. Then scroll up to select reboot system press power button to select option.
The phone will now re-start and the root cache will be cleared, turning of location services on apps will prevent the problem.
You cannot use apps to clear the root cache, it can only be done in service mode.
    Be happy...;)

It says its a replacement battery - no photos show it as a genuine Samsung battery with branding.

Seller offers a full refund if you return it within 14 days.

Send it back and discuss about return postage costs
  • thank you i will give that a go!
  • I know there is no branding on the photo's however it is the same colour and looks like a genuine battery. if they have displayed the real gold version, i would have known properly, that it was not genuine.
thank you. i will. the postage was free to send to me, under DSR'S can i claim any postage back to them?

I had this ruddy battery would not charge, someone who mends phones sent me that to try first and low and behold the battery started working perfectly, it would not go past 23% before.
    Strange gadgets...
    Be happy...;)
  • well the phone itself, has started turning its self off at random intervals, then restarts over and over.
i have to take the battery out then charge it, but the battery is just not holding its charge.
going from 100% to 92% to the 80% in a matter of 5 mins.

so i will give that a go, couldn't hurt!
  • Hi guys thanks for the help and advice so far.
the trouble shoot did not work, however i think its just the battery that has or will be completely shot at.

anyway, i have had a reply from the seller who apologised for the confusion, they have said they will refund me on return of the battery.

The address supplied is literally a 10 min drive away from me, can i suggest to drop the item off?

And if not, do i have grounds, possibly under the DSR's to ask for my postage back?

    thank you!
