were you allowed into your new build to do stuff before completion?

just wondering, cos my carpet fitter seems to think he will be allowed in the day before to do the carpeting.
if I was allowed in to do stuff, I'd probably want to tile the kitchen and wallpaper the bedroom. oh and fit a gate on the garden for the dogs to be secure.

Spreadsheet-obsessed.

We were allowed in for visits and they allowed our aerial fitter in. We had carpets already but I understand that they would have allowed a carpet fitter in the day or so before.
They wouldn't allow any decoration or alterations before that though. They certainly won't allow you to wallpaper a room as you aren't meant to do that for a year after completion due to settlement.
Are you also saying that they aren't providing a gate for your garden as standard?0 -

This is very common, the majority of buyers do this, but not many vendors will allow tradesmen in to do anything to interior or exterior of property before completion. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
My blinds were fitted prior to completion.. all checks were done and I hadn't altered my use of credit or anything else that might jeopardise the final box ticking0

Well... If you don't ask you don't get.
At a guess I'd say they won't let you do anything until its actual yours. But who knows, they might?*Assuming you're in England or Wales.0 -
We have purchased two new builds to date from two separate house builders. None of them allowed us to have own trade in to do work prior to completion. They will happily let you measure up but if you think about it, until you complete the property is not yours so if any damage occurs it would be on them so believe most if not all would probably not take the risk.
What we did when we moved last year was to move in a couple of days after completion as we were having our kitchen floors tiled. Appreciate this might not be an option for everyone else though.0 -
I bought from Taylor Wimpey and had carpet fitters in two days before completion. I had to ask my solicitor to sort out an undertaking for this.0
