is jess losing it ?

we took him off a lady in maryhill, glasgow because we wanted indoor cats and the cpl etc only had cats that wanted outdoor access

lady dint know how old he was, vet asked us how old he was, we guessed about two at the time, he dint argue

he likes his food but has recently started taking a few nibbles then wandering away then coming back a little later to wonder why the other cat, lily, has eaten it !

today he wandered away and i followed him with the bowl and put it down in front of him where he continued eating, this happened twice and now hes settled and not moaning about being hungry

is he older than we thought and getting forgetful do you think ?

It could be a sign of something else rather than him 'forgetting' to eat. My elderly (19) cat had a problem with eating last year and it turned out to be his teeth. They were really plaqued up and he needed one extracted too. Cats with tooth problems will sniff at food and may even eat a little but quite often drop food from their mouths when it'd sore. Also my boy gets an upset stomach from time to time due to his medication and this makes him go off his food for about 24 hours. Try varying where you feed the cat, is he fed with the other cat? He may not like sharing a food area. My cat loves it when he's sunning himself outside and I bring his food to him.
  • the cats we've had had a tendency to do this at times...for example, our previous old boy who be distracted at the merest noise, but would come back again later...our current boy sometimes eats better when we are in the kitchen as well....at other times he'll polish the whole tin off in one sitting...he's still settling in so still a lot for him to take in...

Maybe there is something distracting the cat (things we may not even notice)...might be worth changing the position of his food site, separating it from the other cat? When we had 2, we had to feed them separately else one cat would eat both portions!

Always worth getting teeth checked out at each check u for any signs of problems...our old boy has had most of his removed before he came to us.

I agree with other posters, it could very well be his teeth. My cat would eat a few mouthfuls of food and then wander off and then keep going backwards and forwards just eating tiny bits at a time. I took him to the vet and he had sore gums and needed teeth removing. He was quite old though. Get him checked out just in case he is in pain.
