Is GoForFiles safe?

I downloaded it earlier and my antivirus scan says it is safe but when you go to download something through GoForFiles it asks you to select between a secure connection which you have to pay for or an unsecure connection which is free. Reviews online say it is fine but i'm a bit sceptical about the unsecure part.

I'd never heard of it but it looks like a torrent or other P2P client with a built in search facility.

The "safe" connection will be some sort of proxy or VPN to hide your IP address should there be any copyright owners snooping on who is downloading their material.

There will be nothing "safe" about what is downloaded regardles of connection type as software is liable to carry trojans, rootkits, etc. and music/video may turn out to actually be executables if you have the default windows setting of "hide known file types".

We are not allowed to discuss copyright infringement methods and this to me looks like it almost certainly is one so I'll bow out of any further discussion.

I'd never heard of GoForFiles either, but a quick web search suggests that the files on the system are a source or much malware.

Interestingly, even the installer is infected with a "potentially unwanted program": http://malwaretips.com/blogs/pup-optional-goforfiles-a-removal/
