Octagan Car Insurance

Any help would be appreciated please.
Has anyone had a policy with the above company?
My renewal with my current insurer has just come through but changing to Octagan's standard cover will reduce my policy by £40 per month.
My main concern is a friend has recently had issues with her NCB through Octagan, as in they didn't give her the year that she has been with them.
I've also heard that they don't insure passengers in the car, you have to purchase this as an extra?
Are they an OK insurance company to use?
