Plastering ceiling and coving

Hi I recently had a bad experience with a dodgy builder who did a bad job plastering my ceilings.
In the hallways there are hairline cracks and there are lumps around the coving (i.e. no profile and uneven edge). I have been told that the ceiling can be re-skimmed but I was wondering if would be better to take down the coving before re-skimming. I'm worried that there will be a lot of damage to the plasterboard walls when removing the coving.
Does anyone know if this would be a straight-forward job and how much to expect to pay someone to do this (take down coving, re-skim ceiling then put back up coving)?

Is it plasterboard or lathe plaster? How old is the house?Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
Not sure I think it's plasterboard the house is about 15 years old so quite new0

At that age definitely plasterboard. It is a very straight forward job. No need for coving to come down mate. Might need a bit of scraping down, that's all.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0

Not sure where I need to put the screws back in (filled and painted room). Will plastering the walls flatten them out?0

Zef, send us a picture if you can . don't get a builder for your plastering .. you need a plasterer. we are a diferent bread of annimals 11
get a hammer and a chisel and give it a try yourself to remove the coving.. as above, it would be a straight forward job to remove .... damage here and there that to your eye may seem massive... for a plasterer no big deal..
the problem you may have by removing coving and fitting new plasterboard, the plasterer will need to put mesh between new ceiling and old wall to connect them and minimise cracks on the ceiling perimeter... he will feather nicely towards the wall and you or whoever paints will need to sand down lightly to make it unnoticeable
or if you putting coving again then that's not an issue
before deciding to drop the ceiling... get a scraper and see if that new plaster the builder applied comes of easily.... if he hasn't put enough glue, that plaster should come of easily and if so, you gonna save quite a bit !! remove new plaster and call a proper plasterer.. insist to apply thistle bond it glue instead of pva glue(that's 50 quid a tub and if mixed with some pva can cover a lot) a good plasterer can leave coving margins same as he found them.,,switching the plaster to zero as it comes close to coving .. good luck ..where s the name from by the way?0
