I remember I met a group of colleagues at a place after they finsihed the meal. I had a couple of cokes and was offered various bits they had half finished etc. I declined as I had already eaten and when the bill came they then asked me for £20 odd quid. Thats cheeky, I explained I was just paying for my soft drinks as that is all I had.
One of my colleagues told me on one occasion they went out and him and his friend just had a mushroom burger each and a coke. The managers were quaffing wine like it was going out of fashion and the bill was split £25.00 each. he just paid as he didnt want to be argueing etc. Theres no way I would have paid £25.00 when my bill was about £7.00.
Its about being tight its about fairness really just paying for what you have had.
I very rarely eat out now and when I do its usually a bar meal and you pay when you order it. I prefer eating at home really as its cheaper and better than anything I've ever had out.

I dont earn lots of money, it has nothing to do with being tight, its simply to do with what I can and cant afford to pay.

    .

agree, all about being fair, not about a pound here or there but fairness,
same happened to me recently, with a group of 18, invited by a friend, did not know most of them. my food and drinks was around £18...but my drinking friend insisted on even split of the bill at £26 pp!

I doubt that's worth it I assume you'd have to put the price in of the meals drinks when you could just use a calculator in first place.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

no you just scan the qr code and it does it all for you,
  • It really depends on the people and circumstances. However, if you did order something more expensive or have alcohol when others didn't etc I think you should definitely always offer to pay more if any assumption of 'lets just split it' is made. If it's an arrangement with a specific group or individual that happens regularly then I think splitting the bill equally is more acceptable as sometimes you may have more than others and at other times less.

There's a group I go out with sometimes and we either split the bill evenly or we ask the waiter if they can give us inidivual bills, which they do with no problem. :)

I'm on a tight budget. If I'm out on a group night out and I have a budget, or if I;m driving and not drinking, I simply ask the waiter to put my order on a separate bill right at the beginning.
It;s that simple, - no problems when it comes to paying, no arguing about who had what, and no overspend. He just bring me my bill at the end of the night.
    That is all

Whatever you decide to do, the key's to decide to do it up front.

You seem like "that guy" when you're the one going "are we going to split the bill?" before you order...but it just makes life so much easier afterwards. Know too many people who've fallen out over this.
  • When I go mout in a group, we normally agree it will be around £18 to £25 a head, and if any were driving, it would be £5 less.

If you do not eat up, have a stupid veggie meal and nag all the time, you will not get asked again.
