how many watts does it draw?

This may be in the wrong forum, in which case please move it.

I have a 12V to 220/240V inverter, from a company called Sakura.

The label states:-

Input voltage: 12V = 6.7A
Power rating: 80Watt (resistive)
Fuse: 15A
Output voltage: 220/240V AC 50Hz

Will it draw 6.7A from the battery, irrespective of how much load is attached to it?

No the current it draws will be proportional to the load.

    12 volts X 6.7 amps = 80.4 watts

So if it has a 40 watt load it will pull approx 3.4 amps.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Thanks for that.

I'm aware of the usual load/current effects in a transformer, but with it being an inverter (and with the vagueness of the details on the label), I did wonder.

The no load current draw would probably be around 1 to 2% of the full load current, depending on the design.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc
