Hi i have an old Acer Aspire 9300 laptop
It been dead for a while (charge light comes on , but will not power up )
Would it be easy enough to take the harddrive out, put it in a "caddy", then plug into a desktop PC to get the files?
If so what sort of "harddrive caddy" would i need?
Edit Would this be what i need:

I am not sure on the thickness of the HD would it likely by 2.5 inch ?
here is the laptop spec :

many thanks

If you have a desktop PC you can connect it internally if you prefer. Just plug the SATA data and power leads into the drive and secure it. If you are just doing a one off copy data job then secure erase you can probably get away with borrowing the data and power leads from the DVD drive and balancing the drive on top of the existing hard drive (depends on the case configuration).
Just make sure you power off the PC before opening the case and start unplugging cables!0 -
Have you ever updated the BIOS on that machine? Have you attempted a BIOS recovery on the machine? How much RAM is installed?0

When a cable to do it via USB is about three quid (see here) I'd be inclined to do it that way. Much less chance of error.0 -
If it were me myxbox, I'd go Colin's way, however, if it was my hubby doing it I would go the caddy route. Depends on confidence of playing inside pc. 2.5" Caddy's are relative cheap on the bay.

Try a BIOS recovery to see if you can bring the thing back to life, if you can be bothered.0
