Funny Meter Readings

So, having moved into my first home the electricity meter doesn't give you a reading, it's the smart hub from British Gar that does.
The first reading was 001808
The second Reading 002274
Which means we have used 466 Units?
I googled the average unit consumption and this seems ridicules. It ran from the 24.01.14 - 10.03.14
Is there something wrong here?

Looks about right to me, if it's kWh.0

Do I understand you moved in on 24 Jan 2014 and up till today(10 March) you have used 466 units(kWh)?
Why is that ridiculous?
You haven't said how you heat your home - or if it is a studio flat or a 7 bed mansion;)
Assuming you have gas or oil to heat your home, then 466 kWh - costing about £50 -£60 for 6.5 weeks is just about average.
If you heat with electricity, it is ridiculously low for winter.

Sorry. Heated via gas boiler
I was reading a few forums that said I should be using 10 units a day (is that the same as kWh?)
Its a two bedroom semi. Out all day so a bit of heat in the morning and teatime onwards for everything else.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -

Yes an electricity unit is a kWh.* and you are billed in kWh.
As indicated above you are using approx 10kWh a day so average consumption.
* Do not confuse an electricity unit with a gas unit. A metric (cubic metre) gas unit is approx 11.2kWh. There are quite a few older Imperial gas meters(cubic feet) where a gas unit is approx 32kWh.0 -
466 units at around 11.5p per kWh = £53.59
24 Jan to 18 Mar is 53 days.
So you are paying about £1 a day for electricity.
Looks good to me.Je suis sabot...0 -
Thanks for the help. I think I had a newbie house owner panic moment,
It did give me a warning on the website when I entered my bill saying "this is out of the expected range, please check again before submitting"
Wonder what that was about lolI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
10 units a day is 3,650KWh annually, probably a bit less in the summer. Just a bit higher than the national average and entirely normal.
The vast bulk of your energy usage will be for heating and hot water, in your case via gas. Typically around 16,500Kwh per year.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
