I own a 55 plate Vectra.
Had no issues for 6 years and sunday as driving the clutch went. Struggled to drive the car to a garage but managed it - hard to get into gear to drive.
Had clutch done - some £450 later, bloke at garage mentions gearbox seems a bit iffy - just as garage closed.
Now when I put into first gear sometimes it goes into reverse - you no longer have to lift the gearknob up to get it into reverse if that makes sense.
Could this be done from me forcing it into gear yesterday? Garage do it?
Now, already I have grasped where and how to put it into first however a few q's:
I understand gearbox isn't checked at MOT - however they could refuse to test? Would they?
Is it anything other than a new gearbox? If so im guessing this will cost as much as the car is worth?
Any thoughts appreciated

Could be coincidence but could also be related to the linkage not being set correctly after the clutch fitment. ask the garage to recheck iy, or get a second opinion elsewhere0

Any thoughts on other aspects if it a coincidence?0

It sounds like the linkage being out of adjustment. The linkage has to come apart to take the gearbox out to replace the clutch.
I really can't see any MOT tester refusing to test it or failing it because of that - they may put it as an advisory, but that's merely a "Something we think you ought to know" rather than anything negative.0 -
Clearly they have reassembled the gearlinkage wrongly so get it back to them to fix foc.
No NT would be stupid enough not to conduct an MOT because he couldn't find a gear first time. It would be a miserable, long career to be known by everyone as, "The Learner".0
