I would agree with those who say that a step-parent having PR can be practical & useful, without undermining the non-resident parent. However, there is obviously a lot of history here and undercurrents.

Really it about what works best for the kids.

I would say definitely fight it, and get legal advice. Even if you retain PR, if the stepfather gains PR then it is an erosion of your role as real father, and I would expect more trouble in the future as they try to close you out.
I would also consider your work situation as unless you are the more senior and better-placed, I can see that being used as veiled blackmail too. Time to at least write a fresh CV.

Why not agree to it, but on the condition that you (as the dad's OH) also get PR for the children? - just in case it is needed in the future. That might make them rethink their plans.

Go and get some legal advice, but I would say do not agree to PR going to the step parent. As they have started a court case, you might want to counter with an application for Shared Residence.... you might choose to say that you feel shared residence is necessary to underline that both sets of parents have equal importance and that the application for PR is intended to undermine your OH's role as father. If you make applications relating to residence, then CAFCASS will be involved, and the kids will be spoken to by a court reporter about their feelings....

Out of interest, nobody mentions the kids - how do they feel about their stepfather? Also, how old are the children?
