JSA stopped

Hi I signed on the 26th of February and got paid on the 3rd of March.

I received a letter from Jobcentre Plus that because I work more than 16 hours a week (which I don't) my JSA has been stopped.

They sent me a P45. I have been told to make a new claim by someone at the jobcentre but another person told me to submit my payslips and the hours that I work to them. I today submitted my last 5 payslips and a witness statement

The problem is that my payslip just shows how much I got paid and it does not show an hourly rate. It is a market research company and I am not paid by the hour instead I am paid by assignment.

I work for GFK Mystery Shopping LTD.

I am still going to sign on Wednesday. I will phone them when I get to the office on Wednesday after signing.

So far thankfully I have not missed any payments.

You won't sign on on Wednesday if they have ended your claim and sent you a P45. They only disregard £5 of your weekly earnings (if that amount hasn't changed) so presumably your weekly earnings are more than the single rate of £71.70 + £5. If you work less than 16 hours a week you can sign on to receive your NI credits.

I would make a rapid reclaim for JSA if I was you. You definitely need to inform the Job Centre that your claim has been ended.

Something similar has happened before and the BDC cleared it up. I was still allowed to sign on though.

I will decide what to do on Wednesday.

If they agree to reopen your claim (if closed in error) then signing again would be no problem.

If they agree you are not working over 16 hours, the disallowance may still be correct as suggested if your wage exceeded the JSA + disregard. The claim would still have ended.

That would still need a new claim - if earnings had reduced or stopped - and if you don't cover both options you may have a period with no income.

That something was okay previously doesn't mean it would be again.

Rules change and sometimes you may just get lucky according to how flexible (or experienced) the staff member is.
