Satellite man call out charge

Hi, I recently contacted a satellite company for them to have a look at my Humax box. He said the lead in the back was in the wrong port and moved it from port 2 to port 1 (which took 2 minutes).

Today I received a bill for £42.00

I called to query it and they said it was a standard call out charge. I wasn't made aware of this when I called (but I didn't ask either).

They will not reduce the charge.
I expected to pay about £20-£30, is there anything I can do about it ?

That is a fair amount for a trades call out charge and probably covers the first hour, or half hour.

It's your fault for not checking charges beforehand, lesson learned for the future.

Yes - sit down and work out how much it actually cost for this man to come out to you.

Start with £20,000 for his van, then 40p a mile to drive out, .........then.......then.......then..............

As above. He may have spent 2 minutes at your property but he may have travelled 30 mins each way to get there. Even if not, it's a reasonable call-out charge.
You could have asked on here for advice on how to DIY before calling them out of course?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
