Help needed - How long to get onto Electoral role on Credit agencies ?

Hi all,

Do not seem to be getting anywhere when calling Experian and the likes am in the processs of selling my home. The first time buyers who are buying have had a glitch they had a MIP then applied for a full mortgage delcined due to not being on the electoral roll they applied on the information got sent to credit agencies on 17th Feb but still not showing that they are on. Now been 3 full working weeks now going into the 4th. The house we are buying has been forced to go back onto the market due to this and and we are running the risk of losing it.
Anyone know how long it should take for this information to appear

Thanks

I have usually seen that it will appear within a month or two but can sometimes when it comes to credit worthiness and that e.t.c it can take upto 3 years for it to filter through this is why people who move on a yearly basis tend to have the worst credit rating.

  • It's suggested that up to six weeks is normal from the date they purchase the current electoral roll.

Experian however, and I am unsure if it is the same for the other CRAs, waited until the Scottish and Irish electoral roll was available, so that delayed it from purchasing on 17th February to 10th March. So potentially up to another 6 weeks.

Frustrating isn't it, I'm having problems with regards to this too.

They are not updating now until April 1st. That means if (like me) you registered during the annual canvass last year you will spend almost 7 months not on the ER! Councils updated February 17th.

Outside of the annual canvass you're supposed to be able to be added monthly... Theoretically!

I would add a notice of correction to your files if you intend to apply for any credit, letting lenders know that you are on the ER and have a letter of confirmation from your council to show this, but not showing on your files yet as the credit agencies will not be updating their files until April.

Is this based on any fact or just opinion?

It's just electoral roll is used for identification purposes, hence if you are not on it you will most likely be turned down for any new applications. Time at address may have a small part to play probably in the same way as being married or not would, but salary and credit history have a much more prominent influence. I would have thought people with defaults, CCJs, bankruptcies or even fraud on their credit files tend to have the worst credit ratings?
  • I'm not so sure about that fawns - I have one (1month) late payment marker on my file, and other than that there is nothing but the lack of electoral roll info. I am turned down for everything except the vanquis and aqua cards I recently got, bank won't even up my overdraft! Yet I see on here ex bankrupts, people with iva's and multiple defaults with 0% credit cards! I unfortunately have moved 3 times in the last few years due to landlord's selling, so yes I can well believe we have the worst rating.
  • OP tell your buyers to get confirmation letter from the council if they haven't already. I understand (and hope it's true!) that mortgage lenders will take this into consideration.

Thought I'd post this as I have been trying to find out whether I have been added to the electoral roll myself. I checked with my council earlier this week and they confirmed they had added me and sent the details to the agencies on 17 Feb.

I have taken a free trial subscription for both Equifax and Experian and, having now received my PIN for the latter, as of today (Sat 15 March 2014):
Equifax - Not on electoral roll at new address
Experian - On electoral roll at new address

This is for a house move into Epsom & Ewell, Surrey, where the form was returned around December as part of the annual canvass.

Equifax's stance is in the link above, suggesting they hope to have it done sometime in April. Experian have only aimed to get it done nationally by 1 April according to this link, but in my case it has been done already:

I might not be representative as we don't know how much of the country is still outstanding. There are also useful posts above, as even just being on the electoral roll now but without past history, might not make difference to manual underwriting with alternative proof of identity.
