I tend to keep my eye on a couple of the comp sites and if I see something posted on one of those that isn't on here (which really isn't very often), I tend to post it if I have time. Is this unacceptable netiquette?? I was under the impression that this is how MSE comp board worked...Will stop if I'm breaking rules!
I only started this thread as I noticed a few comps not listed and was surprised as you don't often come across many that aren't already on here!
The few I post all come from the actual sites that are running the competitions not from other competition sites and I would imagine most others are from the sites direct as well.0 -
It never went away - it just evolved thanks to those who stayed behind and it is happily ticking along in a number of ways.
To address another point, personally I don't think finding comps from one forum to post on another is good netiquette - but we all know it happens - in many directions. I do recall threads from the past about sites copying you guys and it not being appreciated - so it seems odd that it's fine in reverse.
But as long as folks know where things stand then that's cool.
Jason
I did say earlier in the thread ...it used to be that we didn't post comps from Loquax onto here but don't know if the 'netiquette' has changed since Loquax changed their comping layouts xplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
I think 'netiquette' would suggest we don't take comps off other comping sites, and should only post those we find through direct links.
It's up to individual compers whether they use multiple comping sites. I rather like the fact the comping sites aren't all carbon copies of one another. And if it was acceptable netiquette to take all comps from Loquax and post them here, then we would have carbon copies. B-o-r-i-n-g....0 -

hi,
sometimes comps get copied from mse onto other comp sites
& now & again some get copied from the other comp sites & are posted on mse, as Jason said ..
'' I don't think finding comps from one forum to post on another is good netiquette -''
but it's been happening for years & will always happen,
if you look into the the history on mse there's been lots n lots of threads about it, some peeps will actively encourage others to post them from other sites & some peeps don't think it's the correct way of doing things,
just swings n roundabouts xplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
In my humbles...
Wrong: copying text, links, answers, etc from one comp site to another.
Fine: seeing a comp on one site, and listing it on a different site, but writing it more or less from scratch. Obviously, people are bound to make use of the info, rather than reinventing the wheel, but a little effort to not simply C&P makes the difference, in my opinion.
Nobody but the comp host owns the right to any comp. If nettiquette (sp?) says differently, then perhaps it's worth rethinking?

When you talk down to others it says more about you than them.0 -
Everyone is assuming that because you find a comp directly from the website & you post it here, that it has been copied from you
If you have found it on the net then so can everyone else

The mag quiz comps should not be C&P from one site to another because someone has gone to the trouble and expense to buy the mag and work out the answers ect.
Everything else is fair game, most providers of competitions want them to go viral, and of course are happy for their comps to be posted everywhere.
Just remember to give credit where it's due and reveal your source, if necessary.0 -
I've always asked our users not to copy/borrow/source from other sites - both in the current and previous incarnations of Loquax - and when it has happened individuals have been reminded of that request.
But I guess it's ok to bin that now and just say it's all fair game

afaik there's not any/many on here that do copy/borrow/source from other sites
the odd one may sometimes get through as in this case but afaik it's not very often & at least the op was genuine enough to be honest in their posting & say they found them on Loquax,
I did say in post #6

but it seems some do tell others to go ahead & post them xplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

Cheers for the input,blulu.
I must say that I am very confused as to your stance re posting comps found on other sites.
Surely the link is the main thing? The rest is just "decoration",as it were?
Get the link & all follows from there, even if others add the terms & such?
Given your "minimal" posting of actual comps since 2011 maybe it is an easy stance to take?0
