Drain off to water butt or drain?

Hi
Taking down an outbuilding that has the downpipe from roofline guttering routed over it and into a water butt, so i need to route the downpipe again...
Underneath the outbuildings floor is the floor drain , and the old occupier had decided before blocking it off with the flooring to fill it with a massive ball of expanding foam
I plan to deck this area of solid concrete (it will be under a garden canopy) should i continue to route into a water butt , or should i somehow (??) hack away the expanding foam and route into the drain and build decking around the grate ?
Cheers

If you drain the roof to a water butt, you will still need a pipe to the drainage or soakaway to drain the overflow from the butt. In the winter wet season the butt will always be at overflowing. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

hmm , thanks , so in reality , even though the drain is literally adjacent to the back wall , i should still route to it ? it just felt like the `right` thing to do , not to use it if i could help it , just to keep water away from the house as much as possible
Any thoughts on the best way to remove expanding foam without blocking this new , uncovered drain?!Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
You used to be able to get a product to eat/dissolve the foam.0
