Is this fair?

Hi
I have read all the posts concerning Allied carpets and how much they overcharge for underlay and beading and am getting worried now...
I have a 100 square foot of flooring to be covered with real wood.
Allied have given me an bill of £2600 for the wood (£15.99 sq. metre)
plus underlay and all beading. Also included is the purchase of the
stairs carpet (£5.99 sq.metre), with fitting and delivery with Allied.
I am picking up the wood, underlay and beading myself.
Is this reasonable? The manager has taken off 10% as I did a large order, but
am I really paying a few hundred more than Focus/B and Q/Wickes??
If so, I may have to have a word with the manager again...
Many thanks,
Sam

I bought my laminate from allied carpets and shopped around a lot for the best deal. The laminate was on offer so was the best buy however the underlay was massively more expensive than everywhere else I looked. If it's not too late I'd recommend buying the underlay seperately from b&q or a local flooring store. There are also some great offers on the internet, especially on beading, much cheaper than b&q etc. Good luck with getting a good price and enjoy your new floor :cheesy:0

we got silly quote from allied & Storey carpets although it was an insurance job
storeys gave shockingly bad customer service
we now by the carpet and get it fitted by a local guy and its less than half the price
buying underlay, grippers & edging is far cheaper from B&Q etc
B&Q actually sell a trade pack of grippers that should do a full house far cheaper than 5 separate grippers, but you need to search for em or ask
Gnever take advice from broke or unsuccessful people

Hi
I estimated that Allied Carpets charged me their luxury underlay price,6.99 per square metre, its a 7mm thick one that comes in green, I was told that it was a medium priced one at the time though. They didn't give me enough and I went to another Allied Carpets store, but they had ran out, they also said you don't need and I quote "Our most expensive brand" any will do and directed me to the local DIY store, where I got it for 2 pounds per square metre!!
Is this true??
Thanks, any ex or current Allied Carpet/Associated Companies or any rogue traders/customers/people in the know please comment!
I'll be speaking to the manager about it this week and will let you know what actually happens!! I've kept all receipts too!
Thanks

Hi All
I didn't get many replies as I think people keep well away from Allied and the likes, but today after two months of calling Allied on a weekly basis, I got 1475 pounds back!!
This is such a result!! If you think these large companies have been unfair to you don't let them get away with it!!
