Ryobi petrol strimmer expandit

I have a ryobi rlt30ct petrol strimmer that you can add attachments to
Unfortunately the little rod with socket that rotates in the main bar coming from the main unit has lost its shape - it looks like the motor was too powerful and has worn the inner metal square shape socket that turns the attachments and it means the attachments no longer work as it can't grip the rod which goes in the socket when you add an attachment - the socket has become round and the attachments are square so it just doesn't grip and spins and means the attachments don't work
Does anyone know if this is an easy fix or if I will need to buy a new one - if so where is the best place to get it repaired
If I need a new one would people advise an electric or petrol hedge cutter I have lots of hedges and need something that has a long reach for the taller bushes

Not sure about your particular model, but there are any number of online parts suppliers if you Google for Ryobi Parts. Instruction manuals are also available online, just search for your model number. Or if you're not confident about doing it yourself, find your nearest repair place and ask them for a quote - you can search for either Ryobi Authorised Repairer, or else most generic Garden Tool Repairers / Dealers should be able to help.
Regarding your second point - personal choice. Myself, I'd go for petrol over electric every time. More powerful, portable, no trailing wires, generally longer lasting, and if something does go wrong with the engine it's easily fixable for someone who knows about engines ( like cars used to be in the good old days before the advent of all this electronic wizardry)
The downside is they're substantially heavier than electric ones - not such an issue for lawnmowers, strimmers and the like, but could be a big factor for a hedge trimmer where you're holding it at or above head height for any length of time.0 -
