  • I've picked out 3 Vanguard Index funds, US Equity, UK Equity, Developed World excl. UK Equity. I'm looking at a 50%, 20%, 30% split respectively.

What percentage US is the latter? I'd guess at >50% so do you really want to add more? If you do, that's fine, as long as you understand that your portfolio composition will be.

And at 100% equities, I hope you're in your 20s or early 30s, and also have a strong stomach. Again., this is no big deal, but you do need to understand and accept how your portfolio might behave.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

I'm having trouble downloading this spreadsheet. I'm ending up with a file size 235 KB which is not complete. I wonder if anyone else is having the same problem. :undecided

  • Sorry I meant "Developed Europe" not "Developed World". I'm in my early 20's, I understand the risks going all equities. My large weighting towards the US was that it gives you a cross-section of a wide range of companies, something which I think the UK can't, and in the long-term should outperform the UK.

How are you trying to download it? In what browser?
  • I'm planning to be more fund focused this year too so I think CSD seems like a good shout for me too.
Can I ask you guys a very very basic question as I only started investing this year and therefore only have experience of having one isa account.
I'm currently with HL and have currently around 5k invested into stocks with them.
So next isa year my options are to continue with them or have an account with a new broker. Say I decide that I want to invest more in funds so I go with CSD as it appears to be cheaper. Now what does that mean? Does it mean that in the coming year I can only put new money into CSD and with HL, I can only invest with the money I already have with them and I can't put more money into the HL account?

If that's the case then I'm going to have to think about how CSD is for shares too as if I want to invest more money in shares it will only be through CSD.

It would be so much easier if every year you have a set allowance for ISA and you can distribute that money across your different accounts.

Perhaps I should have referred to -

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=64540489&postcount=15
    or even -

"I think this is my spreadsheet being talked about, to enable platform charges to be calculated and compared between platforms for clean share price pricing (allows for dealing costs also through number of sales and purchases inputs).
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxA...it?usp=sharing
The (excel) spreadsheet can be downloaded by going to that link and choosing file download."

    - which is where I am having the problem - using only Firefox so far.

When all is said and done at your portfolio size there isn't that much between CSD & HL on costs - and personally I doubt the differential will be maintained in the future. I would keep life simple and stick with HL for now. It is a really nice platform and one you are used to. It leaves you the flexibility to easily move between funds and shares in the future. Also it is now considerably cheaper for most funds than it used to be.

I was considering a move to CSD and moved a small amount over to them to try them out. Their platform is fine but I definitely prefer HL.

You do have a good point because I think I'm thinking so much into the far future by when I'm hoping to have a bigger portfolio that I'm failing to see that right now these little differences in charges don't make a big difference to me.
If and when I do have a bigger portfolio I should then make a more informed decision about what's a cheaper platform for me then.

So if I do want to stick with HL, do I just let things continue as they are and April onwards I can add my new allowances to ISA or do I have to open another ISA with HL itself? I don't know how these things work.
