PC Mic Audio Using Too Much Upload on OBS & Skype

Hi all,
Usually fairly tech minded myself but got a bit of an issue just now i'm stuck with.
I use a Logitech USB webcam with built in USB mic just now for Skype and OBS (Open Broadcast Software)
I also use DU meter to monitor my live data streaming stats.
Normally my PC at idle uses 50kbps upload roughly.
As soon as i start a programme such as one above that broadcasts my mic my upload speed jumps to it's maximum (1.1mbps)
This means if i try and broadcast any video at the same time, i can't. Online gaming is sometimes an issue as well with latency due to this.
My friend, with a higher quality Logitech webcam and higher quality mic only uses about 600kbps upload when broadcasting his webcam video and his audio at once.
We've checked all the codecs and other settings match which they all do so very puzzled to why my upload useage is so much higher.
Any ideas?
