Northern Cyprus

Hi Can anyone give me any information on Northern Cyprus. Looking to go away for our 30th Wedding anniversary somewhere nice. Have to go August because of my job in school. I understand flights stop in Istanbul. Is it possible to fly to other part and hire a car and drive into Northern Cyprus or is it too far. We have looked at so many holidays. Husband fancies somewhere adult only, little cottage/apartment/villa with pool, total relaxation for 9/10 nights. We have looked at Greek Islands/Spain and Turkey up to now.

You can fly into Larnaca, and get into the TRNC from there.
There's lots of information on the Trip Advisor discussion forums for Cyprus.0 -
when we went to cyprus we did a day trip to Kyrenia northern Cyprus, we looked into hiring a car to do the trip but insurance would not have been valid for driving in the north for cars hired in the south when we asked.
as Pompey says you can fly into Larnaca and get transfers to the north0 -

I think you can take a hire car at Larnaca to take into the TRNC, and purchase additional insurance at the border crossing.
But the car will be easily identifiable as being from the Republic of Cyprus, and there'll be a few crackpots in the TRNC who'll delight in making a few dents in your car.
So I'd arrange a transfer from Larnaca, and then hire a car once I got into the TRNC.0 -
My parents have been going for almost 20 years.
Now you can fly direct and cross the border it is much easier. If you do hire a car expect the unexpected and if you think we have a lot of speed cameras you haven't seen anything!
The downside is there are plenty of opportunists out there ready to get what they can out of you at bars and restaurants. Ask for local recommendations and avoid newly opened tourist traps.0 -
Holiday makers bring cars over here all the time, they are not targeted one little bit, just welcomed. A great get away from it all property and Adults only is ; http://www.gonorthcyprus.com/hideaway.asp
There are several car hire companies that allow their cars across ; Fontana, Petsas, Avis, Sixt etc
Speed Cameras , yes there some here , but they are well signposted ( 65 kph ) on the drive across the Border and into Kyrenia , there are 3 in the space of a 40 minute drive.0
