Hi, I asked a question on here the other day for a friend re IS and making a claim when they were only eligible for an amount once SMI kicks in, however this has not panned out. They've now asked me another stumper. Basic details are worked all their life (so NI issues), he has got ill in last year, he's 61 she's 59.…

If this doesn't pan out and they are short of money could the wife do some part time work? She can earn up to £100ish per week when on Carer's Allowance without it affecting her CA.

Alternatively have they room for a lodger? Could use the Rent a Room scheme and avoid the tax.
