Hi, Im in receipt of DLA, i get the middle care component and the lower rate mobility.

I also get ESA and am in the Support Group.

In october 2015 i will be affected by PIP and will need to be reassessed.

Lets say i dont get PIP (worst case scenario) because apparently the assessments are more rigorous, well then, will i also lose ESA, or will it be reduced?
I know theyre different, PIP and ESA have different assessment criteria but, for some reason i dont trust it.
I think theyre intertwined somehow, your ESA goes up in accordance with whatever rate DLA you get, thats what i thought, could be wrong though.
But yeah, if youre refused PIP and your DLA subsequently ends, will that mean that your entitlement to ESA ceases?

This may sound basic but, if your reassessed by PIP and they think that your condition isnt as bad as your last DLA assessment suggested and they refuse you PIP and stop your DLA...
Then why would you continue getting ESA?
ESA is a capability for work DUE TO a medical problem, so if the PIP people say your ok, why would they not inform the ESA?

Thats basically the question, cheers.

You'd lose the severe disability premium within ESA if you currently receive that. But other than that, your ESA should be ok.

no. not getting PIP would not stop your ESA but if you receive income based ESA, it may change the amount you receive.
on income based ESA, you get the severe disability premium (£59 a week) if you receive middle or high rate care DLA or either rate of PIP.
this would stop if no DLA/PIP award is in place

Both ESA and DLA (PIP) have their own criteria.
Being entitled to one benefit - even at the highest rate - may not mean you qualify at all for the other.

However - if you got DLA because you couldn't find your way to a known destination unaccompanied - and ESA for the same reason - if this is later found not to be the case for DLA (PIP), it will of course raise questions about your ESA award.
