Using parents credit card to book flight

Hi all - we can pay outright for some tickets to Oz which we are booking direct with Singapore airlines, but it would be sensible to use a credit card for extra protection. Me and my wife got rid of our cards years ago and we don't really want to get one, so would we still be covered if we used my parents credit card to purchase tickets as they won't be in their name?
Alternatively, using our offset mortgage overdraft would be effectively buying on credit under SOGA won't it? So giving the same protection as a credit card despite it being a debit card?
TIA

Both your options risk breaking the chain upon which section 75 relies.
Why haven't you got any credit cards, it would be more convenient, I'd have thought one would be needed in oz in any case.
If you're buying the tickets from Singapore then the risk of default is also low of course.0 -
In what way would using a chargeable overdraft break the chain section 75 needs?
We don't need credit cards when we are there, staying with family.0 -
Be very careful that the airline you're booking with doesn't have a policy that the cardholder must be one of the travellers on the booking.
I know of someone who booked a ticket with BA for her daughter to travel alone and the airline refused to let her daughter travel because of this.Optimists see a glass half full

Section 75 relies on a D-C-S (debtor-creditor-supplier) relationship.
The purchase is not for the 'benefit' of the debtor, ie the parent who's the primary cardholder, so is unlikely to be covered.
Some examples on the FOS website if you want to research further.0 -
Ok, so if the credit card route is out, is the overdraft route workable as it's my overdraft? We're on a BOE base rate + 0.37% trakker, so it makes borrowing cheap - though we'd pay it off as soon as we've 'used' the tickets as we've got the money saved0

Again, some info on the FOS website...Ok, so if the credit card route is out, is the overdraft route workable as it's my overdraft?

...although this is old! Either google or make a FOS site seach for 'credit token' and 'debit card'.
Even if it did work, why would you delay repaying. It's not necessary to still be carrying the debt...merely to have used a 'credit' token to create it initially. We're on a BOE base rate + 0.37% trakker, so it makes borrowing cheap - though we'd pay it off as soon as we've 'used' the tickets as we've got the money saved0 -
Ah, ok. Wasn't sure if it were paid off straight away whether it would be classed as credit.
Thanks for the answers.0 -
When I book with Singapore I'm pretty sure the T&Cs said you have to take the CC you used to make the payment. Having said that, they didn't ask for it, but I suppose they could have...0

I nearly fell foul of this sort of thing on Air Oman. It was my card used to buy the flights and I was travelling but I didn't have a physical card anymore as I had paid it off and cut it up when it came to the end of its 0% deal. I noticed the footnote on the reservation on the Thursday night before a Sunday flight - cue panicky call to Oman cust services who assured me I would not need to present the card. Tried to get an emergency replacement but CC company would only do standard service. Luckily new card arrived on Saturday as when I got to Heathrow they did ask to see the card on check-in.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
