Chargeback Refused - Paypal from Savings

I did a paypal transaction to book a cruise which was cancelled without my authorisation. Dealt with a third party company who are now uncontactable. The paypal transaction was funded from my Halifax Savings Account. When I contacted Halifax to do a chargeback they informed me that because the funds transferred to my Paypal account for the transaction had not come from my debit or credit card account I wasn't covered for a chargeback because they came from my savings account.
I'm out £1000. Any advice would be welcome.

Contact Paypal, they may want proof of the cancellation (I assume you have an email or letter) but should get the money back for you.
How long ago did you complete the transaction?
How did you send the funds with Paypal, as a gift or as a purchase?0 -
Unfortunately I'm well outside the 45 day limit. Paypal funds were as a purchase. Chargeback would have been useful as the cruise date is still in the future. Any other ideas?0

Unfortunately, as you have found out, chargeback schemes are only applicable to card based transactions.
What do you mean by 'uncontactable'?
Do you have an email address, and they don't reply?
Do you have physical address and have you written?
A phone number?
If you were to tell us who you are trying to recover your money from, i.e. who Paypal paid your money to, maybe someone can help further.
But if the company really is 'uncontactable', the I am sorry to say that you have lost your money.0 -
Is it ABTA? If so it's protected by them, if not then you have learned an expensive lesson, never book a holiday without protection.0

How were the funds transferred?
Via Direct Debit? Could you not do a Direct Debit Indemnity claim?0 -

The direct debit guarantee wouldn't be of any use here.
It only guarantees to refund payments that were made without the authorisation of the account holder and there is no liability on the bank's part for fraud that occurs after an authorised dd has been paid.0 -
Company was Cruisemiles.com. Lots of people scammed. Check out !!!!ed consumer.com.. The customer uses miles purchased on Ebay to secure cruise on Cruisemiles.com. My last 2 cruises cancelled within warning. Worthless cruisemiles returned to vruusemiles account. The paypal transaction used to pay Ebay seller the funds came from my savings account which was linked to PayPal. Cruisemiles not ABTA.0
