British Airways Lost Luggage Compensation

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice. My girlfriend and I travelled to America over New Year's and on our way out, our bags were lost for three days before making it to us and on the way home they were again lost for two days. It took ten phone calls a day from myself to their staff and eventually we had to phone their headquarters and ask for a manager to get our bags back.

I have submitted a complaint to BA and they have offered to reimburse me for necessities purchased in America, totalling £50. I have asked for much more than this in the form of some cash compensation and reimbursement for my necessities and phone calls to them while in America.

Obviously I am not happy with a £50 payout after the major hassle they caused but they are not willing to offer any more. Any advice as to where I should go from here?

Thanks!

Could you use a few thousand avios for a short haul trip on BA?
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Anything more than £50 would be acceptable at this point. Cash would be preferable but I wasn't sure how far I could take my claim.

have you checked your travel insurance to see what it covers?
how much did you spend on necessities and phone calls?
  • Travel insurance covered the necessities too, eventually, but BA have said they will also cover them. The phone calls cost me £40 and they are ignoring that fact.
I'm just looking for some compensation for the distress. We were told each day that we would be receiving our bags within a few hours and we were lucky to have our clothes for our New Year's dinner. It was an appalling example of customer service. Their staff were sarcastic to us and had my girlfriend in tears.

It is not clear - did you claim on your travel insurance and get compo off BA?
  • My travel insurance are reimbursing my necessities and BA are also giving me money for my necessities. But I feel that BA should be giving me more after the appalling way I was treated.

Have you got all receipts and proof of phone costs? They tend to have a fixed amount you can claim depending on how many hours it was delayed- this will be on your booking details. Distress is almost impossible to quantify and you are looking at a goodwill gesture for this
  • I do have receipts so I'll ask if they will reimburse the phone calls too. An act of goodwill, perhaps some miles, is all I'm looking for. I feel it is justified.

claiming twice for the same thing is not on, and one of them will probably be breaking some law or other.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

out of interest, was your flight a single leg or were their connections?
