Frosty neighbour?

Just completed and first visit to the new house.
Did a 3 point turn encroaching into the neighbours drive and was about to set off. When a most unruly person appears on the window and looks like he's barking - out of courtesy I stopped and rolled the window down; he barks "driving on to peoples garden - you better not do that pal and dont repeat that again!!" - i apologised (i thought it was correct to do it at that time).

Is this the start of things to come? Am I being paranoid or does this sound really rude? Proabably the first person who has spoken like this to me!!

probably not the best way to endear yourselves to new neighbours by reversing onto their drive

Probably didn't realise that you were the new neighbour. I expect he thought you were just some cheeky buggar turning around on his drive.

My DH has ranted at people before (in previous homes) for using the end of our drive to turn around on. We have a nice big pair of metal gates at the end of our drive now, which are often closed, so it's impossible at this house. haha.

I doubt he will even remember you next time. Don't worry, and don't mention it to him when you meet him. (After you've moved in.)

Never understood why some people are so precious about drives. They are, after all, designed for driving on. Many residential streets are not wide enough to turn without some use of drop kerb end of driveway. Hopefully the OP did not actually drive on the garden.

i've had a potential new neighbour in the past who has parked across my drive , with my car parked there in obvious view , and there being plenty of places to park on both sides of the road including outside the the property he was looking at

is that ignorance or stupidity ??

possibly your new neighbour had problems in the past with people damaging his lawn doing what you did

I can sort of see where hes coming from. When my next door but 2 neighbour turns round at night he always uses my drop kerb, his headlights light up the whole front room it is annoying if your watching a film with lights off. He used to come right up the drive but we have 2 cars now so theres no room to enter drive he does not even use his drive for parking or turning round on. I have never spoken to him about it as we fell out many years ago and only say hello in passing.
  • People turn in my drive all the time. I don't get my knickers in a twist. Now when people walk through the front garden delivering their junk mail, that winds me right up

My neighbour use to drive over the edge of my lawn, while turning into their drive area, she is a poor driver anyway, so I have put 4 very large rocks there, solved the problem.!!

I can see where he's coming from. I get really annoyed when people use our drive to turn, there's plenty of room to turn elsewhere without driving onto my property.

Without wanting to sound ridiculous here, the front of my car is about 6in onto my neighbours drive (and generally is when I'm home), as I find it easier to get that angle, than to wake everyone up with engines revving.

We have 2 large cars (Jag Sportbrake/Skoda Yeti) and a small-ish, 2 car drive. They have one much smaller car, so it makes sense.

Probably helps that we get on well, though.

It would annoy me but obviously that's fine if your neighbour is ok with it.

We have two normal sized cars yet built a path next to our drive so that our cars could be accommodated comfortably. It also meant the postman etc would not have to walk between our cars and potentially knock into them. Our next door neighbour has a 4x4 and a normal car but they have not built a path to make their parking easier. However, they seem to think it's ok to park part of their car on our drive. I don't see why we should have paid to extend our drive for them to take advantage. It's incredibly rude.
