I start a job next week :j I have not told the JC yet I will do so on Monday. I have done my normal job searching for today but do I need to do so over the weekend? as I would like to get paid up the last possible day I can, I have not yet worked out how I am going to be able to manage before I get my pay packet

You didn't need to do any job searching at all after you were told you had a new job (congrats
)
All they'll want to know on monday is when you start work (or started) so they can pay you up to the day before.
I had a celebratory burning of my JSAg booklet (and all evidence for the past weeks job searching contained within) when I got the good news
edit: I phoned them on the friday before I was due to start on the monday.0 -
Technically you are supposed to meet your ageement and still look for work if you wish to be paid for these odd days, as afterall thats what JSA is for- to help people who are actively seeking employment.
However these conditionality conditions are rarely checked when someone signs off and goes into work.
Have you thought of asking your JCP if they can offer you financial assistance from their flexible support fund as you are going to be signing off, they may be able to help you with travel or clothing costs, if they are relevant?0 -

Thanks I don't suppose it will hurt to ask but I thought they stopped all that? I need to pay childcare upfront, work clothes as none of my old ones fit me anymore
(will be scouring the charity shops at the weekend) and of course petrol to make sure I can get there. I suppose bills can miss being paid for a month although it will be hard to catch up once you start doing that. 0 -
Congrats on the new job!0

Don't forget to apply for Tax Credits as you will need to apply for this separately from benefits. There are specific TCs for childcare.
Also remember you may need to inform Housing and Council Tax benefit office.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Thanks I will ring the tax credits office on Monday, does anyone know if they pay TCs (especially the child care element) straight away or will there be a delay in getting it? No housing, I have a mortgage and still haven't sent in my claim form for the new council tax year yet (at least thats one job I don't have to do as I won't qualify for any help with that now)0 -

Yes you do. Whilst your claim is active you must be job seeking. If you have an accepted offer you should still be looking elsewhere in case it falls through.

Congatulations I hope all goes well for you.0

Last possible day is the day before you start work. You might as well do some job search, don't want some jobsworth sanctioning you.0
