Yes you do. Whilst your claim is active you must be job seeking. If you have an accepted offer you should still be looking elsewhere in case it falls through.

    Don't promote benefit fraud.

Thanks I will ring the tax credits office on Monday, does anyone know if they pay TCs (especially the child care element) straight away or will there be a delay in getting it? No housing, I have a mortgage and still haven't sent in my claim form for the new council tax year yet (at least thats one job I don't have to do as I won't qualify for any help with that now)

First payment should be within 4 weeks.

If you're claiming HB/CTB, you need to update them, but can claim a 4 week overspill.

If you start on Monday, JSA will pay you up to Sunday (it will take up to five days for them to make the final payment.) Personally, I would do a quick job search, just to keep them happy.

I recommend trying to do it as soon as they open the phone line. At 9am the line is chock-solid.

iammumtoone - you've played by their rules to this point, now it's time to live YOUR life, not theirs. Enjoy your 'time off' before you start work and don't give JC or anyone else a second thought.

What people need to realise is when you make that phone call to sign off you will not be talking to an advisor hell bent on job seeking evidence with sanctions in mind - far from it. I spoke to a very nice girl who was full of congratulations and good luck wishes. I told her I was going to spend the weekend getting off my face (I didn't) and celebrating, she said... 'I don't blame you' :D

Yes. It's not hard to grasp. If you are claiming JSA and not meeting your agreement you are committing fraud. By telling someone to not meet their agreement stix62 is encouraging them to commit fraud.

She is either ignorant or malicious. In either case, I would not listen to a word she has to say.

Thanks everyone. I do know that I have to continue job searching before I start work/tell them, hence why I did so last night. I just wondered if you HAD to search over a weekend to be able to get the money for those two days. Like stix62 I would like a break from it and also have lots of stuff to sort out before I start work (arrange childcare get references sorted etc)
  • If you've received a firm job offer, which you've accepted, and have a start date then searching for other jobs does seem to be a bit of a waste of time and money for all concerned (not so much the searching part, but submitting applications and attending interviews). If an offer is conditional on the basis of decent references or passing a medical etc then I'd keep looking to be on the safe side.

From when I told her I'd received a job offer my adviser didn't look at my UJM or ask what I'd been doing again, even though my start date was over a month away. She even offered to arrange a little extra money to cover my petrol costs for the first week, so there could be some help available - if you don't ask, you'll never know.

When I started signing on in November, I was told 'we pay you seven days a week, so we expect you to job hunt seven days a week.' Take that as you will, as your the one that will have to deal with the consequences.

I am a little confused by your post. Is the job offer sign and sealed, or still dependant on references? If its the later I would keep the job-hunting going just in case the worst case scenario happens.

That is a good question I am a little confused about it myself. I was offered the job and said I would accept. I do have to supply references but will have started the role before they will be received. I am to fill out some paperwork this weekend and take it in Monday.
