Virgin V+ box not recording - get failed message

My Virgin V+ set top box has stopped recording. Where I have set it to record a show, two days ago it stopped recording and the episodes now all show as failed. I have restarted it but without any luck.

I looked up reasons on the internet and it seemed to suggest you have to reformat the hard disk. Or that is what the Virgin call centre, who are not exactly helpful, will suggest.

I don't want to do that yet as I have a couple of shows recorded a week ago OK which I want to view and save first if reformatting is the only option.

Anyone else had this problem and know what the cause is?

Could be anything - if a restart fails, then a call to VM for the nuclear option is the only way to go. You'll need to view the items you want to see first.

You do not always run the risk of losing everything from the HD, but if remains a possibility.
