Mortgages for Teachers

Hi all,

Basically, my partner isn't on a permanent contract - he gets signed up at the beginning of each academic year, gets given his hours and the year after, it happens again. Because he gets paid based on how many lessons he teaches, his payslips doesn't show Basic Pay, rather hours claimed.

Halifax have asked for an employers reference but HR have said they can confirm how much he gets paid per hour, when he's contracted until and his boss says he'll give him written confirmation he'll be there next year.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation where it's been a bit of a pain regarding non-standard pay and which lender is most likely to be ok with it?

Our MA says he might try Natwest next but his lack of 'yes, let's go for this' and choice of 'we could try' leads me to think this is new to him when I'd have thought it to be quite usual these days?

I'd like to highlight I have an AP from 2010 which might rule out some lenders if anyone was to suggest someone.

I'm not a teacher but in a similar situation whereas I am paid in quite an odd way. (I do have a permanent contract though). It took quite a bit of explaining to the mortgage consultant and I do have to send in a lot more proof of income then my partner who is just paid a monthly salary. However, other then perhaps being a bit more paperwork it has had no ill-effect on our ability to get a mortgage.
I shouldn't worry and just see what they come back and say.

    Thanks guys.

I have mentioned Teacher's Building Society to our MA but he didn't return my query about them.

Amy, I do hope you're right about it for us - there seems to be a lot of deep exhales & teeth sucking when we try and explain the situation!
