Advice on leaving a dog home alone please!

And sniffles, thank you for your concern, but I wouldn't even consider doing anything that caused my pup anxiety and would chop my own arms off before I'd give him away. I don't have children so have absolutely no perspective when it comes to my darling puppy - he is my entire world!!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

I have now discovered that hubby regularly would go upstairs for the morning and leave Teddy downstairs to sleep after his morning walk, so he IS used to being alone for about 2 hours. But I'm hugely relieved that someone who adores him will have him with them during the day. If it doesn't work out, hubby will probably not work again but I am keeping everything crossed that it is all okay. I may look into doggy day care otherwise!!
Think about extending this to him being completely alone in the house, all of you go out. Its really very different if they know one of their humans is just upstairs!
You're in a great position now, you're lucky enough that you don't have to leave your pup alone so you can really take your time to train him to feel settled and safe with nobody else there.0 -

Thanks for that. In the last 10 months, we have gone out on two occasions in the evening for a couple of hours, but I've waited until his normal sleep time and we've put him to bed then gone out.
Today is his first day in another house. I got up early and took him for a nice long walk so we got his usual morning poo's out of the wayHe was delighted to see our friend and bounced around all over him. Cried a little bit when I left, but he does that anyway. Fingers crossed they both have a lovely day. I was a bit like a mum leaving her first born child for their first day at nursery, but I'm calmer than I thought I'd be as Teddy seemed quite happy there and we took round his spare little bed, a daddy-smelling t-shirt, his fave toys, his usual food and water/food bowls plus poo bags, his towel if he gets muddy and every possible phone number to contact me if necessary. Hope I haven't forgotten anything vital!
