Edinburgh Parking Ticket

Hi,
I've had a search about but because this is a Edinburgh council ticket I don't know if it makes much difference?
I recently parked in a street down from my University in Edinburgh (Merchiston, Napier).
The road has parking spaces available at either side. It so happens I parked at the wrong side.
On the 26/02/2014 I parked on the left side of the road and crossed over to go to the parking ticket machine and pay for my parking at 9:48, I paid £4 to allow me a maximum of 9 hours stay which prints on the ticket the expiry date was the 27/02/2014 at 09:48.
I then displayed the ticket on my dashboard.
The offence code on the charge notice is code: 115
The actual ticket states:
'11p PARKED WITHOUT PAYMENT OF THE PARKING CHARGE'.
After I got home that day, I went straight online to dispute the ticket and provided photographic evidence that I had actually paid for parking.
A week later I received a reply.
'Thank you for your letter received on 27 February 2014.
Unfortunately, having examined all the circumstances of the case we are unable to offer cancellation of the parking ticket.
The vehicle concerned was parked in a public parking bay without displaying a valid pay and display voucher. Please see enclosed photographic evidence.
Due to the varying tariffs and maximum parking times within the city centre, pay and display vouchers are not transferable and can only be used in the block of bays to which the ticket issuing machine relates. In this case the voucher displayed had been purchased from a machine in an area with a 9 hour maximum stay, whereas the vehicle was parked in a street where parking is restricted to 4 hour. This information is clearly stated on the front panel of all ticket issuing machines and the onus is on the driver to take heed of the information provided on the ticket machines before purchasing a voucher.
While we can appreciate that you made a genuine error, this does not constitute a reason to cancel the parking ticket.
In the circumstances, it is considered that the Parking Attendant was acting correctly in issuing the parking ticket and we are therefore unable to intervene in the matter.
As you sent us your reasons within 14 days of receiving the parking ticket, you have the opportunity to pay at the 50% discounted rate of £30.00 within 14 days of the date of this letter. Please be aware that immediately after expiry of the 14 day period the charge will become £60.00.
You should now choose whether you want to pay the charge at the discount rate or continue to challenge this parking ticket. Payment will bring the case to a close. For details of how to pay or challenge this further, please read the enclosed Information Sheet.'
So it turns out that the other side of the street isn't included in the 9hr stay, which is ludicrous - I believe it's a way to try and catch people out.
Is there anyway I can get out of paying this ticket as I am going to seriously grudge paying this as I am not being a !!!!!!! (excuse my French but I am furious to say the least), I actually did pay for my parking.
Note that the evidence attached doesn't show my parking ticket, it was attached to my dashboard and easily visible - I had three people in the car that day as witnesses that I displayed the ticket, and anyway - why would I pay for a ticket and not display it?
Thanks.
